EHRGEIZ at the LUX Helsinki
February 2016
Light artist Kari Kola presented at the LUX Helsinki 2016 his latest light installation. Between 06th and 10th January 2016 visitors had the opportunity to visit his installation between 5pm and 10 pm at Old Church Park.
The artist also used the EHRGEIZ Chroma 40 RGBW. Overall 20 pieces where used. Ten of the Chroma where just used to create an atmospheric ambient over the whole park. The other ten pieces where used to illuminate a small building at the edge of the park. This was part of an application where visitors where able to stand onto one of three spots coloured in red green and blue. When one person stood at one of the points the whole building was coloured in that specific colour. To do an colour mixture more persons where needed to stand in another the colour spot. As all three spots where covered the building was light up in white. This application was one of the highlights of the whole installation.
“Chroma was perfect unit for the job, because it has pixel mapping option and strong colours. I wanted to make this one of the main focus points in the whole piece so I needed extremely strong power, because I used in the piece around 450 other LED-based units too.”
Beside the great colour mixture and the impressing light output the Chroma had to fight one other big task. The temperature was a real test for the fixtures due to temperatures of -20°C and lower. Kari Kola was obviously impressed by the performance of the ERHGEIZ Chroma 40 RGBW.
“Units worked even it was -20 degree or even more outdoors and there was 660,000 visitors that saw the application in 5 days. This was biggest amount of people in any festival ever in Finland. I bought additional 20 units of EHRGEIZ Chroma 40 straight after the festival and will invest in some more soon.”
